Introduction
I’m thrilled to share with you the spiritual growth goals I’ve set for my children in the year 2024. As we usher in the New Year, it’s not just about personal goals but also about intentional Godly parenting and nurturing the spiritual development of our children.
Traditionally, people set goals for various aspects of their lives such as financial, academic, career, business, and health. In addition to these, I emphasize setting spiritual growth goals for our children.
In the past, I would set and execute these goals for them, but now, with my children aged six and five, it has become a collaborative effort. The aim is to empower them to take charge of their spiritual growth.
One of the primary goals we’ve set for this year is for my children to complete the Bible by the end of 2024. While some may question if they are too young for such a task, I believe that, just like children of other religions complete their spiritual texts at a young age, our children, as Christians, can do the same.
To achieve this goal, we took several steps. Firstly, we purchased new Bibles for them, ones that are engaging and tailored to their preferences. My daughter received a journaling Bible, allowing her to document insights and express her creativity, while my son received a Bible with pictures to make the experience more vivid.
Additionally, we printed out a Bible reading plan covering the first 90 days of the year, encouraging them to read approximately one chapter per day. We also introduced the journaling habit, where they record their reflections on each chapter.
To instil consistency, we established a routine of reading their Bibles before bedtime. An alarm system was introduced to help them wake up independently for their morning devotions, creating a sense of responsibility.
Apart from completing the Bible, we set additional goals, such as daily prayer for 10 minutes and incorporating quiet time with devotions every morning. Although the goal of learning a memory verse daily has been slightly challenging, we’re actively working on it during our family devotion time.
Furthermore, we’ve outlined topics for spiritual discipline that we aim to cover during our family devotion sessions throughout the year. This includes discussions on their identity in Christ, faith, prayer, and other relevant topics.
Conclusion
In conclusion, these are the spiritual growth goals we’ve set for our children in 2024. By involving them in the process and providing tools that align with their interests, we hope to instil a lifelong love for God and His Word.
