As parents, we often focus on the immediate needs of our children—their education, health, and safety. However, as they grow older and begin their journey into adulthood, there are deeper, long-term areas we must also pray over.
Through my own journey as a parent, I have come to realize how important it is to consistently lift my children in prayer. Here are ten key areas that I now pray for my children, trusting that God will guide their lives and keep them grounded in His love and truth.
Their Adult Years
I pray for my children’s future years, that as they step into adulthood, they will be strong in their faith, wise in their decisions, and rooted in godly principles. I ask God to grant them the courage to pursue their purpose and the perseverance to overcome any challenges they may face.
Understanding God’s Plan for Their Lives
One of the most important prayers I pray is that my children will clearly understand and follow God’s plan for their lives. I pray that they will seek His guidance in all things and trust that His plans for them are good, even when the road ahead may seem uncertain.
Their Marital Relationships
I pray for the future spouses of my children—that God will prepare them, guide them, and create a foundation of mutual respect, love, and faithfulness. I ask that God would help them to establish relationships built on trust and His Word, and that they will approach marriage with the right heart and commitment.
Their Mental Health
Mental well-being is a major concern in today’s world, and I pray for my children’s mental health. I ask God to guard their hearts and minds, giving them peace, strength, and resilience in the face of any emotional or mental challenges. May they always seek help when needed and never feel ashamed to prioritize their well-being.
Their Finances
I pray that my children will be good stewards of the financial resources God gives them. I ask for wisdom in managing their money, that they will make wise decisions, avoid debt, and practice generosity. I pray they will develop a heart that honours God with their finances, understanding that everything belongs to Him.
Their Ability to Handle Childbirth
As my children get older and eventually decide to start families of their own, I pray that they will have strong, healthy, and positive experiences when it comes to childbirth and raising children. I pray for their future role as parents, that they will be loving, patient, and wise in guiding their own children.
Their In-Law Relationships
The relationships they will have with their in-laws are so important. I pray that my children will have peaceful and loving relationships with their spouses’ families, founded on mutual respect and understanding. I pray they will know how to set healthy boundaries while fostering connection and unity within the family.
Their Adult Friendships
Friendship is a vital part of life, especially as my children enter adulthood. I pray that God will surround them with godly friends who will encourage them, support them, and walk alongside them in faith. I pray they will be discerning about the friendships they choose and that these friendships will be built on trust, respect, and mutual growth.
The Country They Will Reside In
As my children grow and perhaps decide to live in a different country, I pray that God will guide them to a place where they can flourish spiritually, emotionally, and socially. I ask God to provide them with a community that will support them, and for their safety and well-being wherever they choose to live.
Their Relationship with God
Finally, I pray that my children will always have a close, personal relationship with God. I pray that their faith will be their foundation in life and that no matter where they go or what they do, they will always seek to honour Him with their lives. I pray for them to grow in the knowledge of His Word, find strength in His promises, and trust in His unwavering love.
In Conclusion
Intentional parenting requires us to look beyond today and invest in our children’s futures. By praying for these areas of their lives, we can trust that God will lead them and shape them according to His will. As parents, we can only guide them so far, but through prayer, we can entrust their futures into the hands of the One who holds it all in His care.
These prayers—and many more like them—are what inspired me to write my book, 365 Days of Praying the Scriptures For Your Children. It’s a book filled with intentional prayers and scriptures to help you cover your children in every season of life. If you desire to grow as a praying parent and leave a legacy of faith, I invite you to explore the book and let it be a companion on your parenting journey.
